105.3 WDAS is celebrating Black History Month by shouting out some of our favorite sons and daughters throughout the month of February with The Pride of Philly…some of the biggest names in the world of music, entertainment, politics and the arts that hail from Philly or the surrounding Tri-State area.

FEBRUARY 16, 2022

Kobe Bryant was born on August 23rd 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kobe entered the NBA directly from high school winning five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. At age 34, Kobe was named the youngest player in the league history to reach 30,000 career points. In addition to being recognized and rewarded for his talents domestically, he was also recognized internationally as a global ambassador for all sports. A 3 time Olympic champion, Bryant died tragically on January 26, 2020 in a Helicopter crash in Calabasas, CA that also claimed the life of his 13 year old daughter Gianna, and 7 other passengers.
