She also reviews the accounts in her new memoir - Jenifer Lewis: The Mother of Black Hollywood. She tells of living out her 20s not knowing she had bipolar disorder and how sex was her way of dealing with the symptoms until she was properly diagnosed. Lewis also recounts the time she talked an attempted-rapist out of attacking her. She convinced him she had an STD and if he forced himself on her, he'd get the disease as well.
