PRIDE OF PHILLY February 5, 2021: Patti Labelle

105.3 WDAS is celebrating Black History Month by shouting out some of our favorite sons and daughters throughout the month of February with The Pride of Philly…some of the biggest names in the world of music, entertainment, politics and the arts that hail from Philly or the surrounding Tri-State area.

FEBRUARY 5, 2021:

Patricia Louise Holt-Edwards better known under the stage name Patti LaBelle, is a singer, author, actress, and entrepreneur. LaBelle began her career in the early 1960s as lead singer and front woman of the vocal group, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. LaBelle became a mainstream solo star in 1984 following the success of the singles, "If Only You Knew", "New Attitude" and "Stir It Up". In a career that has spanned across 50 years, she has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. She has also been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. LaBelle was included in Rolling Stone on their list of 100 Greatest Singers and is commonly identified as the "Godmother of Soul".
