THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY: Donna Summer

35 YEARS AGO TODAY (July 19, 1982): Donna Summer released her self-titled album. She had Quincy Jones produced the album instead of her longtime collaborators Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. Summer was pregnant with her daughter Amanda Grace Sudano during the making of the album.

Summer's album featured her hits "Love Is In Control (Finger on the Trigger)," "The Woman in Me," "State of Independence" (featuring an all-star choir), "Living in America," and the pop standard "Lush Life."

Summer's self-titled album peaked at #6 on the US Billboard R&B album charts and #20 on the pop album charts.
