The newest name to join this list, Quinta Brunson is a Golden Globe winning West Philadelphia native who is the creator, executive produce, writer, and star of the new ABC comedy "Abbott Elementary," based on a school here in Philadelphia, which has just been renewed for its 5th season on ABC. She is a graduate of Charter High School for Architecture and Design, and was a recipient of the prestigious Lew Klein award from Temple University in May of 2024. Brunson has won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, and "Abbot Elementary" won an Emmy for Outstanding writing for a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy. Brunson herself won the 2024 Emmy for Best Comedic Actress in a Series...the first African American actress to win the award since Isabel Sanford of "The Jeffersons" in 1981.
