A West Philadelphia native, Colman Domingo is the newest name to join this list, and has been a force in the world of acting for over 15 years, but has finally come into his own with 2023 being his tour de force year. Domingo has had several stage and film credits over the course of his career but it’s been his appearance as Ru’s counselor in the hit HBO series Euphoria that has helped kick down doors for him at a different level.He made history earlier this month by being the first openly gay actor to be nominated for Best Actor for his work as Bayard Rustin, one of the architects on the March on Washington in the Netflix movie Rustin, and he also reprised the role of Mister in the musical adaptation of the legendary film the Color Purple. Most recently, Domingo has received critical acclaim for his role in Sing Sing…stars in the Philly based Netflix series…’The Watcher’…and stars as Joe Jackson in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic scheduled to hit theatres Christmas of 2025.
