ABC News has confirmed Erica Garner passed away today (December 30, 2017) at the age of 27. She was the daughter of Eric Garner. In 2014, the then 43-year-old Eric was placed in a chokehold by NYPD with his final words, "I can't breathe," captured on cell phone video footage. Erica turned to activism following her father's tragic death. Sadly, the 27-year-old's fight against policy brutality came to an end. On Christmas Eve (Dec. 24th), Erica suffered a massive heart attack that put her in a coma. One week later, on December 30th, Erica Garner passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family as the deal with this unfortunate loss.

When you report this you remember she was human: mother, daughter, sister, aunt. Her heart was bigger than the world. It really really was. She cared when most people wouldn't have. She was good. She only pursued right, no matter what. No one gave her justice.— officialERICA GARNER (@es_snipes) December 30, 2017
