With only three episodes left in the 6th season, ABC and Shondaland will put Scandal to bed after its upcoming 7th season.
Show creator Shonda Rhimes previously told NPR, "I feel like there is a finite amount of Scandal to be told...So I know what the end of Scandal will be, and I feel really good about that."

The network is expected to make a formal announcement at its upfront presentation on Tuesday. [We were] told series creator Shonda Rhimes made the call to conclude the series, and ABC accepted her decision.
