The Roots are a hip hop group, formed in 1987 by Tariq "Black Thought"Trotter and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Roots are known for a jazzy and eclectic approach to hip-hop, featuring live musical instruments. They released 10 studio albums, two EPs, and two collaboration albums. The Roots have also broken major records in the music world naming them "Hip-hop's first legitimate band.The Roots remain the in studio house band for NBC’s, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
