The world must not forget what happened to Breonna Taylor.
On Wednesday (June 10), Cardi B, Alicia Keys, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Jada Pinkett Smith, and many more celebrities joined the chorus of voices continuing to demand justice for the killing of Breonna Taylor by taking part in Until Freedom's latest video campaign, which centers around the question: “Do you know what happened to Breonna Taylor?”
For Cardi's version of the video, she asks the question before Breonna's mother, Tamika Palmer, appears in the video to recount the story of how the Louisville Metro Police Department used a no-knock warrant to barge into her 26-year-old daughter's apartment unannounced on March 13 and shot Breonna eight times as she slept in bed.
“Bri was murdered by the Louisville Metro Police Department,” Tamika shared in the clip. “And after they killed her they asked me if she had any enemies. No. Absolutely not."
Not only was Breonna unarmed at the time of her death, but the plainclothes police officers who fatally shot her were also at the wrong house as the man they were actually looking for had already been arrested earlier that day.
"Breonna should not be dead," Tamika continued. "Somedays I feel like I can’t breathe without her. This should never happen to another family.”
The video concludes with Until Freedom’s Tamika Mallory sharing what people can do around the country to demand justice for Breonna.
She first asks that people call Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer (at 502-574-2003) to demand that he fire the officers that killed Breonna. She then asks that people call Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (at 502-696-5300) to demand the officers be charged in the murder of Breonna. And for her third action step, she urges people to call interim LMPD Police Chief Robert Schroeder (at 502-574-7111) to demand the investigation into Breonna's death be completed immediately and the details from the investigation be shared with Breonna's family lawyers and the Attorney General.
Tamika's final ask was target to Louisville residents specifically, as she asks them to call their city council members and demand they vote to ban no-knock warrants at an upcoming vote to ensure what happened to Breonna never happens again.
