One day Gabrielle Union asked her stepson's about the girls they follow on Instagram and why they follow only fairer skinned girls? According to Vibe.com Union states, “So I asked them to show me the most beautiful chocolate sister they’ve seen. They say there are none. I was like, ‘Why do they get exed out so fast? What is happening in your brain that is causing you to look at these women through a prism that is distorting their actual selves?'
I am a woman that is proud to hear a mother challenge the beauty standards with her son's. Much of the internet and society doesn't showcase beauty from all shades of the color prism. Due to what they see, most men go after what is considered beautiful that is labeled by society.
This conversation has to be had! The ability to open the minds of the youth to show that beauty can be found everywhere and do not discount someone due to their shade is absolutely necessary.
