February 15: Patti LaBelle

Patricia Louise Holt-Edwards better known under the stage name Patti LaBelle , is a singer, author, actress, and entrepreneur. Regarded as the queen of rock & soul music, LaBelle began her career in the early 1960s as lead singer and front woman of the vocal group, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. LaBelle became a mainstream solo star in 1984 following the success of the singles, " If Only You Knew ", " New Attitude " and " Stir It Up ".

In a career that has spanned across 50 years, she has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. She has also been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. LaBelle was included in Rolling Stone on their list of 100 Greatest Singers and is commonly identified as the "Godmother of Soul". She is involved in several charities, including Big Sisters of America, the United Negro College Fund, the National Minority AIDS Council, the American Cancer Society, and Save The Children. We salute Patti LaBelle for always embracing the city she came from.
