Will Arsenio Hall be able to make a TV comeback? After being promised a second season his late night talk show, he was abruptly cancelled last week. Distributors for the show cited low ratings and decided not to continue further. There has been an outreach to other networks, but folks like the E network feel Arsenio is too old for their demographics. He is 58. Officials at Oprah's OWN cable group say no outreach has been made to them. Will the BET network offer Arsenio another chance at TV?



Speaking of second chances, Supermodel Tyra Banks is coming back to TV in a new talk show slated for next year. Banks is partnering with ABC/Disney on a daytime talker that will focus on beauty and entertainment. Banks will be leading a team of lifestyle experts as they tackle an array of subjects including beauty, home entertaining and empowerment. The show will also feature celebrities, experts and internet personalities.



R Kelly's daughter Jaya is now living her life as a transguy. Jaya is a biological girl who is transitioning into life a guy. Jaya calls herself Jay. Kelly's ex-wife and Jay's mother Reality Star Andrea Kelly from Hollywood Exes is happy and accepting of Jay's decision. Now a lot of people close to Andrea feel that she's getting lost in the hype of her reality show and failed relationship with her latest man, who married her for the money. Those same people also feel she needs to pay more attention to her children. As for R Kelly, there has been no word on how he feels about his daughter now living life a guy. Could this be a form of rebellion against him and his scandals with young girls?



Oscar Winner Lupita Nyong'o has been added to the cast of the new Star Wars movie, which is coming out December 2015. It's been over 30 years since Return Of The Jedi, and many of the original cast is coming back including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher and newcomer John Boyega a black British actor from Nigeria. We're still waiting to see if Billy Dee Williams, a.k.a. “Lando,” will be getting a call to join his fellow Star Wars castmembers.



Jennifer Lopez is having problems with her boy-toy Casper Smart. Smart, 27, has been dating the superstar for the past three years, but he was recently fired as the creative director for her upcoming tour. Lopez, 44, has been humiliated by the recent actions of her boy-toy. Apparently he has been acting inappropriately with transgender models on social media. Smart has not been discreet, and these transgender models are talking. A couple of years ago, Smart was caught visiting a gay porn shop. He says it was an accident because he didn’t know where he was going. He has not been able to explain these new incidents with the transgender models. It now appears Lopez will not be taking Smart along on her world tour, and their relationship may be over. Lopez’s children by Marc Anthony adore Smart, but Lopez cannot take any more embarrassing incidents with this young man.


We remember Actress Lee Chamberlin, who passed away after a battle with cancer. She made dozens of appearances on stage, screen and TV. Of her most popular, were Chamberlin's stints on TV's Paris with James Earl Jones and the daytime soap All My Children. She may be best remembered for teaming up with Rita Moreno, Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman on the children's educational PBS show The Electric Company in 1971. Chamberlin even won a Grammy for their recordings on the show. Chamberlin's biggest hit on the big screen was as “Madame Zenobia” in the Sidney Poitier-Bill Cosby classic Uptown Saturday Night in 1974. She rejoined the duo again for the even more popular sequel as Poitier's wife “Dee Dee” in 1975's Let's Do It Again. Lee Chamberlin was 76.


We also remember Philadelphia Inquirer Co-Owner/Temple University Alum/Camden, NJ's own Lewis Katz. Katz died in a Massachusetts plane crash with six others last weekend. Katz was known as a self-made businessman who at one time was an NHL and NBA owner along with his cable TV, parking lot and billboard businesses. Katz was also known for his philanthropy and his constant push and financial support for higher education, particularly for those who couldn't afford it. Lewis Katz was 72.


Finally, TV's Ann B. Davis died at the age of 88. The comic actress took a bad fall at her home and never regained consciousness. Davis won two Emmys for her work in the late 50's for The Bob Cummings Show, a.k.a. Love That Bob. But, Davis is best remembered for her role as “Alice,” the housekeeper in TV's iconic series The Brady Bunch from 1969-1974.



Ice Cube returns to the big screen June 13th with Channing Tatum in 22 Jump Street, the sequel to the box office hit 21 Jump Street that was loosely based on the Holly Robinson Peete-Johnny Depp TV series.



The ladies of Think Like Man Too are the covergirls for the latest issue of Essence magazine. Gabrielle Union, Regina Hall, Meagan Good, Taraji P. Henson and LaLa Anthony look amazing. The ladies are a riot in this sequel to the movie based on Comedian Steve Harvey's best selling book. Think Like A Man Too opens in theatres June 20th.



The 68th Annual Tony Awards are happening this Sunday, June 8th on CBS. Hugh Jackman is hosting. One of the highlights of the night will be the celebration for the musical After Midnight, which is up for 7 Tonys. Patti Labelle, Fantasia and Gladys Knight will be performing during the tribute. Labelle is starring in the production during the month of June (the 10th through the 29th). Patti's fellow R&B Legends Gladys Knight and Natalie Cole will also be joining the production (Gladys Knight: July 8th-Aug 3rd and Natalie Cole: August 5-31st).



Actor Omari Hardwick returns to TV this Saturday at 9pm in the Starz original drama Power. The show is produced by Rapper 50 Cent, and also stars Naturi Naughton and Lela Loren. Hardwick is best known for his roles in Being Mary Jane, the movie Middle Of Nowhere and the TV show Versus and Flow. Hardwick is also on the cover of the last edition of Jet magazine before it moves into its new online only production.



Reverend Run is back with a new reality show on the Cooking channel. Rev. Run's Sunday Sundays debuts Sunday at 10pm.


Singer Shanice (I Love Your Smile) and her husband Comedian/Actor Flex Alexander (One On One) are coming to the OWN cable station. This reality show follows the life and times of a broke celebrity couple. Yes, the two have experienced the career droughts of the business, and we get a look inside. The show, Flex And Shanice, will premiere May 31st on OWN. Speaking of OWN, the documentary series on openly gay NFL Player Michael Sam has been put on hold. Sam was getting more attention for coming out than for anything else. Looks like putting the proposed series on hold is the best way to avoid a backfire in opinion on the new NFL pro baller.


Tina Campbell from Mary Mary is about to embark on a new venture. Campbell has had a rough year dealing with the revelations that her husband, Musician Teddy Campbell, had been cheating on her during their marriage. Campbell is ready to tell all in a new book, and she will discuss how they weathered the storm during this time in their marriage. Campbell also wants to do a solo project following in the footsteps of her sister Erica Campbell.



In other Mary Mary news, the duo has joined the line up for this season's Essence Of Entertainment at The Dell Music Center. They are coming Friday, August 1st . The Whispers are celebrating their 50th and so will I on Sunday, August 3rd. There's also WDAS' own Mimi Brown's 35th Anniversary Show, Al Jarreau, Ledisi, Anthony Hamilton and Babyface are just a few of the stars now added to the summer 2014 season. Everything kicks off Thursday, July 10th with The O’Jays and Will Downing. Will is also back with a new project called Euphoria. His stop at the Dell is part of his summer tour promoting the CD. KeKe Palmer is about to make her debut as the youngest talk show host in history Just KeKe debuts Monday, June 30th at 5pm on BET, right before 106 & Park.



What is going on with Comedian and Actor Mike Epps? He is set to be a part of the new season BET’s Being Mary Jane starring Gabrielle Union, but he keeps getting caught up in scandals. Last week, he attacked an Atlanta comedian who made a video parody of him and fellow Comedian Kevin Hart having an argument. A couple of weeks ago, Epps slammed Hart in a shocking interview stating that Hart was overrated. At a movie screening a few weeks ago, Epps allegedly attacked a former girlfriend when she threw a drink in his wife's face. Epps is so talented, why is he letting his personal life overshadow his career?



LaToya Jackson is ready to be a mommy. The recently engaged Jackson has her own reality show on OWN, and now she says motherhood is something she has wanted all of her life.



Singer Toni Braxton exposes some shocking revelations in her new book Unbreak My Heart. Braxton admits to having an abortion ten years ago. She says she was on acne medication and feared harm to her unborn baby. Braxton does also admit she didn’t want to inconvenience her lifestyle A couple of years later, she gave birth to an autistic child, and she felt God was punishing her for having the previous abortion. Braxton also talks about her financial troubles, including filing for bankruptcy twice. The Seven Whole Days singer also covers feeling dissed by Oprah Winfrey on national TV, her marriage to Mint Condition's Keri Lewis and dealing with her autoimmune disease lupus.



The family of Whitney Houston is mad about a proposed Lifetime TV movie being made about the late singer/actress. The movie, which is being directed by Houston's Waiting To Exhale Co-Star Angela Bassett, will focus on Whitney's life while she was married to Singer Bobby Brown. The Houston family feels that Whitney's life is bigger than a TV movie. They want her story told on the big screen. Sources say the Houston estate may block the movie. There is no word on who will play Whitney Houston or Bobby Brown.



The Made In America music festival is returning to Philadelphia on Labor Day Weekend, August 30th and 31st, with newlywed Kanye West, Pharrell, Kings of Leon and J Cole, to name a few. There's also an L.A. Made In America in the works. Plus, the documentary about the first Made In America concert is available now on DVD. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 2014 Made In America will take place on the Ben Franklin Parkway, and tickets are on sale now.



Drummer Sheila E is ready to tell all in a new book. The percussionist/songwriter/performer's book is called The Beat Of My Own Drum. She also has a new CD out called Icon. E is best know for her hits Glamorous Life, Hold Me and Love Bizarre with Prince.



The 2014 BET Awards are happening Sunday, June 29th. Chris Rock is hosting this year's event. Jay-Z and Beyonce are leading in the nominations. Other nominees include Oprah Winfrey, Floyd Mayweather, Venus Williams, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, Erica Campbell, Idris Elba, Tamar Braxton and John Legend. Lionel Richie will be getting the Lifetime Achievement Award. Previous winners include “Uncle” Charlie Wilson, “The Boss” Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Whitney Houston, “The Godfather Of Soul” James Brown, “The Empress Of Soul” Gladys Knight, The O'Jays, The Isley Brothers and Prince. Speaking of Lionel Richie, his tour with Cee Lo Green is coming to the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on July 23rd and then Lionel hits the Borgata in Atlantic City on Sunday, August 3rd.

Jet magazine may no longer be in print form, but the 68-year old publication will continue to showcase The Jet Beauty Of The Week in it's new digital version. Past Jet Beauties include Florence LaRue, Pam Grier, Freda Payne and Marilyn McCoo. The new Jet will be available for tablets and mobile devices and published once a week with updates daily beginning this month.



On August 1st, Get On Up, the life story of James Brown, opens in theaters. Get On Up stars Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Tika Sumpter, Dan Aykroyd and Jill Scott.


Wesley Snipes is back on the big screen with the movie Expendables III with Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews and Dolph Lundgren. The movie opens in theatres August 1st.



Speaking of Terry Crews, the Everybody Hates Chris actor has a new book out called Manhood. Crews talks about everything from his near 25-year marriage to what he describes as an addiction to porn. Wow Julius!!!!!



This is the year of Taraji. Taraji P. Henson is the Oscar nominated actress who is getting her shine. First, Henson stars in From The Rough. A true story about an African American female coach who lead a men's golf team co-starring the late Michael Clarke Duncan in one of his last roles. Next, Henson reteams with Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy and Regina Hall for Think Like A Man Too. The movie also stars Gabrielle Union, Terrence J., Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Romany Malco and Wendy Williams. Think Like A Man Too opens in theatres Friday, June 20th. Next up, No Good Deeds opens in theatres September 12th. It's a thriller co-starring Idris Elba. Finally it's the FOX show Empire. The Lee Daniels produced hip hop drama pair Henson with fellow Oscar Nominee Terrence Howard as a hip hop mogul and his ex-wife. Malik Yoba (New York Undercover), Singer Macy Gray and Oscar Nominee Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) have been added to the cast. Empire is slated to debut this fall on FOX. You gotta see the trailer, Taraji is going to blow you away because she is amazing in her role. This Sistah is on a roll!



A documentary about the Broadway musical Fela is coming out this summer.



Singer Ledisi will be playing Gospel Great Mahalia Jackson in the new MLK biopic Selma. The movie stars David Oyelowo (The Butler) and Carmen Ejogo (Sparkle) as Dr. and Mrs. King. The movie is being directed by Ava DuVernay, who rewrote the script and sent it Oprah Winfrey. Now Oprah has joined the project as a producer.



The Wawa Welcome America festivities will feature Jennifer Hudson, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande. The Roots will serve as the house band once again. It’s a free event Friday, July 4th on the Ben Franklin Parkway.




The Apollo Theatre is getting ready to celebrate its 80 birthday! Wayne Brady is going to be hosting the ceremony 80 Years At The Apollo Theatre on Tuesday, June 10th. Special guests that night include Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, Natalie Cole and The Isley Brothers.




Andre 3000 of Outkast hits the big screen in the Jimi Hendrix bio movie All Is By My Side. The movie about the legendary guitarist rock pioneer opens in theatres June 13th.
