I have to begin with the loss of a dear friend, radio colleague and brother E. Steven Collins. E. passed away this past week from an apparent heart attack. His radio career spanned four decades as an on-air talent, journalist, community activist, radio executive,
co-founder of WDAS' Unity Day and record-breaking sales manager, just to name a few of the hats he wore. E. was at his best reaching out to the community and mentoring young people. He participated in marches, protests and every kind of social movement for the betterment of the community and promise of equality. E. also supported countless organizations like The Urban League, Father's Day Rally Committee, The NAACP, Men United and The Ivy Legacy Chapter of The A.K.A.'s Philly's Men Are Cooking, just to name a few. E. used the airwaves to
inform his listeners whether the topic be voting rights, education, healthcare, workers rights or showcasing youth and their positive achievements. He was a most popular figure throughout his native Philadelphia. That popularity even took E. to television as a sought after political and social commentator for MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews and FOX 29 News. Many remember E.'s Philadelphia affiliate hosting duties of The Lou Rawls Parade Of Stars -UNCF Telethons. E.'s radio career was the center of it all, and it spanned Temple University's RTI station right though his tenure at Radio One. E. spent the majority of his career here at WDAS, but all of his collective radio family will never forget him.

Reverend Henry Wells was known in the Philadelphia community as a long time advocate in the fight against drugs. After he got clean from drug abuse himself, Reverend Wells used his organization, One Day At A Time, to help others struggling with addiction. Wells garnered nationwide coverage with his infamous casket marches to illustrate the dangers of drugs and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18th  at Deliverance Church, 20th and Lehigh at 11am. Reverend Wells was 83-years old.

Legendary Producer/Songwriter/Arranger/Musician Bobby Martin has passed away.
He's best know for his incredible arrangements of many Sound Of Philadelphia classics. Martin's music career stretched back to the 1950's with Bebop music. Martin, after being on the road and honing his musical skills, would eventually settle in Philadelphia. Martin is credited with being the first producer to record a newly named “Patti LaBelle.” He later hooked up with Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Producers Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. Martin was part of their music arranging team from their time as independent producers up through their founding of Philadelphia International Records. Martin arranged for Jerry Butler (Only The Strong Survive, Hey, Western Union Man), The O'Jays (Love Train, For The Love Of Money), Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes (If You Don't Know Me By Now, The Love I Lost), Lou Rawls (You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine), Billy Paul (Me & Mrs. Jones), The Jacksons (Enjoy Yourself, Show You The Way To Go) and MFSB & The Three Degrees (TSOP, When Will I
See You Again), just to name a few. Martin would go on to become a Grammy-winning producer/arranger for The Manhattans (It Feels So Good To Be Loved So Bad, Kiss & Say Goodbye), L.T.D. with Jeffrey Osborne (Back In Love Again, Concentrate On You, We Both Deserve Each Other's Love) and Tavares (Never Had A Love Like This Before). Martin died after a brief illness at age 83.
