We often think of sports as a passionate pastime, a way to stay fit or maybe an excuse to throw in a few bucks into the office betting pool ( Me? Never!) The Global organization Beyond Sport believes its also a powerful tool for social change and they're in Philadelphia for their annual Summit. I caught up with Adam Hall from Beyond Sport last week as the organization was setting up for this week's activities.
There's a lot going on. Here’s the description from their website: “The Beyond Sport Summit 2013 will include visits to exciting sports programs across the city;special high-level sessions in unique venues on key issues such as sustainability, youth leadership, health, and investment in the social change sector; specially tailored one-day programs including the renowned Beyond Sport United and Beyond Football (Soccer); and exciting evening receptions and networking parties celebrating the best in sports, locally and abroad. It will be the place where the sport, development, and business industries come together to network, learn, and be inspired.”
I'll be emceeing the Celebration of Philadelphia Sport Panel which will include Lavoy Allen of the 76'ers and Korinne Dennis who is not only a Beyond Sport Philadelphia Young Ambassador but works with the Eagles Youth Partnership. In 2011 The Eagles won Sport Team of the Year because of the extraordinary contributions of the EYP led by Sarah Martinez-Helfman. Find out more by going to beyondsport.org.
